Republic Day in India is a National Festival that honors the date on which the constitutions of India came into force. 26 January 1950 was the day that observed this historical moment. As being a national holiday in India, Republic Day is observed with great pride as well as enthusiasm all through the country as on this very day India was declared ‘Republic’.
After getting freed on 15th August 1947 from the British rule, India was led by King George VI till Indian constitution came into force on 26 January 1950, declaring itself as a democratic republican country. Since then 26 January is celebrated as the Republic Day of India.
Republic Day Celebration:
Republic Day is a yearly celebration of national significance; hence no stone is left unturned to mark its significance. Although the Republic Day celebrations are held in each and every state of India, however New Delhi, the national capital city witnesses the grand show featuring Republic day Parade and processions starting from Rajpath (India Gate) adjacent to the President’s house to the historical Red Fort.
The occasion of Republic Day starts from Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate where the Indian Prime Minister with Chief of army, Navy and Air Force pay honor to the soldiers who laid down their lives for the sake of India. Afterwards, the convoy the Indian President together with the chief guest of the celebration arrives at the venue.
Just before the grand display of India’s military power & colors of culture at Rajpath, the Indian President hoists the Indian flag & gives the bravery medals to the soldiers or the family members for presenting outstanding courage in the battle field.
As the ultimate commander of the Indian armed forces, the Indian President takes salute to the march past by the soldiers of various wings of Armed forces. Also the magnificent display of traditional songs & dance by the artists from various states of India & the parade of the children, who have been honored with bravery awards are also regarded as the most joyful part of the Republic Day Parade held in New Delhi. The different states of India also celebrate this day with hoisting national flag by Governor/ Chief Minister on the public functions held in the state capital.
